Wealden has four towns of roughly the same size and no centre at all. Crowborough and Uckfield are in the north, up in the High Weald with Forest Row, Buxted, Mayfield, Wadhurst and Hartfield around them and Ashdown Forest on the doorstep. Hailsham and Polegate are in the south, closer to Eastbourne, and Heathfield sits between. The council’s own offices are at Hailsham.

Crowborough Today reports from the record for all of it. In a district this rural the planning register matters more than anything else, because a field on the edge of a village becomes an estate on paper long before it does on the ground. We read the register, the licensing notices and the committee papers, and we link to the document on every fact.

The site in three parts

  • News: what the record shows, including planning applications across the district.
  • Local Info: bin collection days, parking and council tax bands.
  • What’s On: what is happening in Crowborough, Uckfield and the towns around them.

Nothing goes up without a link to the source.
